With Gameweek 1 now behind us, we’ve got more data to work with and can start making sharper FPL decisions. Here are my five players to keep an eye on for GW2:
Ollie Watkins — £9.0m | 26.1% TSB | 2 points
Watkins blanked against Newcastle, but don’t panic just yet. He faces a Brentford side that conceded three to Nottingham Forest. History shows he rarely scores in GW1, but against weaker defences, he’s clinical. A brace isn’t out of the question this week — patience is key if you own him.
Daniel Ballard — £4.5m | 3.4% TSB | 17 points
The standout budget defender of GW1. Ballard scored, kept a clean sheet, and picked up bonus points in Sunderland’s 3-0 win over West Ham. He’s unlikely to be a long-term option, but with Burnley up next, he’s a solid short-term budget enabler. Dangerous from set pieces too.
Antoine Semenyo — £7.1m | 10.9% TSB | 15 points
Semenyo was electric against Liverpool, scoring twice despite Bournemouth’s defeat. He’s clearly the focal point of their attack and faces Wolves next — who conceded four to Man City. He looks primed for another haul.
Eliezer Mayenda — £5.5m | 1.2% TSB | 8 points
Another Sunderland gem. Mayenda grabbed a goal against West Ham and looks lively leading the line. With Burnley up next and just 1.2% ownership, he’s a real differential shout that could help you climb the ranks.
Tijjani Reijnders — £5.6m | 26.5% TSB | 10 points
Already on the rise in price after his impressive GW1 performance — a goal, an assist, and involvement in Haaland’s opener. His ability to find space in the box and finish clinically makes him a bargain pick. Spurs away is tougher, but he’s shown he can deliver.
Final Thoughts 💭
GW2 offers plenty of opportunities to recover from a tricky start. Whether you go for a safe pick like Watkins or gamble on a differential like Mayenda, these five players all have the fixtures and form to deliver.
