FPL GW33 Ones to Watch: Six Teams Doubling Up 👀

GW33 Deadline: Saturday 18 April at 10:00 BST

Gameweek 33 is a double gameweek special. Six clubs play twice — Brighton, Leeds, Bournemouth, Chelsea, Man City, and Burnley — creating 12 extra scoring opportunities spread across 90 FPL selections. Not every double is worth chasing, but the right ones are worth planning your entire squad around before Saturday's deadline.

Brighton's pair (away at Spurs, then home to Chelsea) and Leeds' back-to-back (home to Wolves, away at Bournemouth) are the best doubles on paper. Bournemouth have one elite home fixture. Man City's double opener against Arsenal makes their week speculative. Chelsea's fixtures are playable but unexciting. Knowing which doubles to target — and which to dismiss — is the difference between a rank-climber and a disaster week.

Plan your transfers using our fixture difficulty tool and cross-reference with the transfer planner.

GW33 Double Gameweek Fixtures

Team Fixture 1 FDR Fixture 2 FDR
Brighton A @ Spurs 2 H vs Chelsea 3
Leeds H vs Wolves 2 A @ Bournemouth 3
Bournemouth A @ Newcastle 3 H vs Leeds 2
Man City H vs Arsenal 4 A @ Burnley 2
Chelsea H vs Man Utd 3 A @ Brighton 4
Burnley A @ Nott'm Forest 3 H vs Man City 4

Fixture verdict: Brighton and Leeds are the standout doubles — combined FDR of 5 tells the story. Bournemouth's home fixture against Leeds (FDR:2) is excellent but the Newcastle away trip tempers their ceiling. Man City face Arsenal before Burnley — tough opener. Chelsea's double is the least appealing. Burnley's double carries the highest combined FDR of any six.

🧤 Goalkeepers

Bart Verbruggen — Brighton (GK, £4.5m)

Bart Verbruggen

EP: 5.5 | Form: 5.0 | TSB: 5.9% | DGW33: A @ Spurs (FDR:2), H vs Chelsea (FDR:3)

Every double gameweek creates exactly one obvious goalkeeper call: the GK from the team with the best DGW fixture pair. In GW33, that's Verbruggen.

Brighton's number one has 7 clean sheets from 31 starts this season — automatic every week, consistent shot-stopper, and now staring down back-to-back fixtures against a below-par Spurs defence and a Chelsea side who've been leaking goals recently. Facing FDR:2 and FDR:3 in the same gameweek is as good as it gets for a goalkeeper.

The maths are simple: single-gameweek stoppers get one shot at a clean sheet bonus. Verbruggen gets two. At £4.5m, he's the most cost-effective GK upgrade in GW33 and the natural pairing with Van Hecke and Welbeck in any Brighton-heavy squad build.

Others to Consider (Goalkeepers)

Player Team Price Fixture 1 FDR Fixture 2 FDR Form
Bou GK Bournemouth £4-5m A @ Newcastle 3 H vs Leeds 2
Leeds GK Leeds £4-5m H vs Wolves 2 A @ Bou 3

Bournemouth and Leeds both have double gameweek goalkeepers with combined FDR of 5. If you're planning a Leeds or Bournemouth double-up in defence, rolling the same team's GK in at budget price is worth considering — use our player database to filter by team and check current form.

🛡️ Defenders

Jaka Bijol — Leeds (DEF, £3.9m) ⚠️

Jaka Bijol

EP: 8.5 | Form: 9.0 | TSB: 0.5% | DGW33: H vs Wolves (FDR:2), A @ Bournemouth (FDR:3)

The most eye-catching stat in the entire DGW33 landscape. Bijol's EP of 8.5 is among the highest of any player in the game heading into this gameweek, and his form of 9.0 outranks almost every defender — and most forwards — in the entire FPL player pool. At £3.9m with just 0.5% TSB, this is about as differential as it gets.

The underlying season stats are humble — 1 goal, 2 assists, modest xGI — but FPL's projection algorithm has assigned him an extraordinary rating ahead of a double that features Leeds at home to Wolves (FDR:2) and away at Bournemouth (FDR:3). Both are genuine clean sheet and set-piece return opportunities for a centre-back operating in a confident Leeds side.

One caveat matters here: Bijol has only 14 starts this season, so his automatic starter status isn't guaranteed the way Van Hecke's or Struijk's is. Check the Leeds team news before the deadline. If he starts, the value at £3.9m with these EP/form numbers is extraordinary given the cost.

Bijol's complete profile and recent game-by-game stats are here

Jan Paul van Hecke — Brighton (DEF, £4.5m) ✅

Jan Paul van Hecke

EP: 7.0 | Form: 6.5 | TSB: 5.7% | DGW33: A @ Spurs (FDR:2), H vs Chelsea (FDR:3)

If Bijol is the high-risk differential, Van Hecke is the dependable workhorse. He's started 29 of Brighton's matches this season and has been one of the most productive defenders in FPL — 3 goals and 2 assists from centre-back, 7 clean sheets, and an EP of 7.0 heading into back-to-back doubles.

At £4.5m, no other Brighton defender at this price offers comparable output. His +151,000 transfers in the week the DGW was confirmed told the story long before it became common knowledge — but at 5.7% ownership there's still genuine differential value if Brighton deliver clean sheets across both legs.

The natural pairing: Verbruggen + Van Hecke + Welbeck as a Brighton triple-up covers three positions, two of Brighton's best-value spots, and maximises exposure to FDR:2/3 fixtures without over-committing budget.

Others to Consider (Defence)

Player Team Price Fixture 1 FDR Fixture 2 FDR Form EP
Truffert Bournemouth £4.7m A @ Newcastle 3 H vs Leeds 2 7.5 6.5
Struijk Leeds £4.3m H vs Wolves 2 A @ Bournemouth 3 6.5 6.0
Senesi Bournemouth £5.1m A @ Newcastle 3 H vs Leeds 2 5.5 4.5

Truffert (£4.7m) is the underrated Bournemouth option — his EP of 6.5 and Form of 7.5 both exceed the more widely held Senesi, and his 9 clean sheets plus 3 assists from left-back make him a serious candidate for the home Leeds fixture. Struijk (£4.3m) is the safer Leeds pick with 27 starts and 6 clean sheets — lower ceiling than Bijol but far more reliable if you want confirmed minutes. Senesi (£5.1m, 20.1% TSB) is the template Bournemouth hold — don't bring him in fresh for the DGW at that price when Truffert is cheaper and better.

🎯 Midfielders

Yankuba Minteh — Brighton (MID, £5.5m)

Yankuba Minteh

EP: 5.5 | Form: 5.0 | TSB: 2.0% | DGW33: A @ Spurs (FDR:2), H vs Chelsea (FDR:3)

Brighton's primary creative outlet from midfield, and the clear pick if you want to add a DGW33 midfielder to your squad. Minteh's record of 2 goals and 8 assists this season is backed by an xGI of 7.06 — he's consistently involved in Brighton's best attacking moments and combines well with Welbeck in the front line.

The rotation caveat is real — Minteh has 20 starts this season, mirroring Welbeck's 20, so Brighton do manage his minutes at times. But in recent weeks he's been a consistent starter and with this double gameweek on the cards, the expectation is that De Zerbi deploys him in both. His 2.0% ownership means any attacking return across Brighton's two games would be a significant rank-climber.

At £5.5m he's one of the best mid-price DGW options available. Pair him with Welbeck and Van Hecke or Verbruggen for a full Brighton DGW sweep. Find more under-the-radar DGW options with our hidden gems tool.

Others to Consider (Midfield)

Player Team Note
Leeds mid assets Leeds H vs Wolves (FDR:2), A @ Bou (FDR:3) — double FDR 5 for their midfielders
Bou mid options Bournemouth H vs Leeds (FDR:2) at home — attractive window for attacking midfield

DGW33 midfield options are comparatively thin outside of Brighton's core. Leeds and Bournemouth both have doubles with FDR:2 fixtures, but individual midfield assets need checking via team news and form. Use our player database filtered to DGW33 teams for the latest EP and form rankings.

⚽ Forwards

Danny Welbeck — Brighton (FWD, £6.2m) 🔥🔥

Danny Welbeck

EP: 7.5 | Form: 7.0 | TSB: 5.4% | DGW33: A @ Spurs (FDR:2), H vs Chelsea (FDR:3)

The headline act — and the best DGW33 asset at any price. Welbeck has scored 12 goals in just 1,817 minutes this season, averaging a goal every 151 minutes, with an xGI of 11.56 that confirms every return is backed by underlying quality. He's not getting lucky. He's just good.

His EP of 7.5 is the highest of any DGW33 asset, and Brighton's two fixtures — Spurs away (FDR:2) and Chelsea at home (FDR:3) — are exactly the kind a striker wants heading into a double. Spurs away has been particularly generous this season. Chelsea have been shipping goals. The set-up is ideal.

Over 195,000 managers brought Welbeck in when the DGW was confirmed, but at 5.4% TSB there's still meaningful differential value, especially if Brighton keep a clean sheet in either fixture — clean sheet points stacked on goals or assists from the front is how double gameweek weeks turn into green arrows.

One thing to monitor: Welbeck has 20 starts this season, suggesting some rotation is possible. In practice, the DGW and his current form make him very likely to start both. Keep an eye on the pre-deadline team news as insurance.

DGW33 Premium Holds — What to Do With Haaland and João Pedro

Not every DGW33 forward is a transfer target. Two of the most-owned players in FPL also have doubles — but both are hold, not buy candidates.

Player Team Price TSB EP Form G+A DGW Fixtures Verdict
Haaland Man City £14.4m 55.4% 2.0 2.0 22+7 H vs Arsenal (FDR:4), A @ Burnley (FDR:2) Hold — two games but Arsenal opener suppresses ceiling
João Pedro Chelsea £7.8m 50.3% 2.0 2.0 14+9 H vs Man Utd (FDR:3), A @ Brighton (FDR:4) Hold — form dip + Brighton away limits DGW upside

Both are holding pads for their owners — two games is two chances to return. But neither should be chased as an in for GW33. Haaland's Man City face Arsenal at home in their opening double fixture (FDR:4), which is the highest-quality opposition of any DGW33 team and heavily suppresses his expected points. João Pedro's form has dipped sharply (Form 2.0) and a trip to Brighton in the second leg is a tough ask.

Welbeck at £6.2m is simply the better DGW forward play if you need to make a move.
