Brentford 3 Everton 3 Sat 11 Apr, 14:00
Burnley 3 Brighton 2 Sat 11 Apr, 14:00

Sunderland 2 Spurs 3 Sun 12 Apr, 13:00
Chelsea 4 Man City 3 Sun 12 Apr, 15:30
Man Utd 2 Leeds 4 Mon 13 Apr, 19:00

The three standout fixtures for captaincy: Man Utd (H, FDR:2), Brighton A @ Burnley (FDR:2), and Bournemouth (FDR:5 away) at Arsenal.

1. Bruno Fernandes — Man Utd (H vs Leeds) | £10.3m ⭐ Consensus Captain

Bruno Fernandes

EP: 12.0 | Form: 11.5 | TSB: 44.8%

The captain decision starts and ends with Bruno Fernandes — and the data is overwhelming. He carries the joint-highest EP in the game at 12.0, a phenomenal form score of 11.5, and an expected goal involvement (xGI) of 19.35 that towers over every other midfielder in FPL. No player in 2025/26 has provided more than his 8 goals and 17 assists (25 goal involvements). And he plays Man Utd's FDR-2 home fixture against Leeds on Monday evening.

Key stats:

  • EP Next GW: 12.0 (joint highest in the game)
  • Form: 11.5 (elite — 3+ points above any non-Arsenal asset)
  • 25 goal involvements (8G 17A) in 2,435 minutes
  • xGI: 19.35 — season-long elite creation
  • PPG: 6.8 | Total Points: 189 (highest-scoring midfielder)
  • Transfers in this week: +175,331 (most transferred in player)
  • Man Utd H vs Leeds (FDR 2) | Monday 19:00

Leeds arrive at Old Trafford with a leaky away record and a four-point FDR disadvantage. Bruno is the set-piece taker, penalty taker, and driving force of everything Man Utd create. If this fixture and this form don't deliver a 15+ point haul, nothing will.

Verdict: Your captain. Put the armband on and don't look back.

2. William Saliba — Arsenal (H vs Bournemouth) | £6.1m 🔵 Standout Alternative

William Saliba

EP: 12.0 | Form: 11.0 | TSB: 13.3%

Saliba is the wildcard captain option that numbers absolutely cannot ignore. He matches Bruno's EP at 12.0 — driven by the combination of Arsenal's near-certain clean sheet prospect against Bournemouth (away FDR: 5, the worst in the gameweek) and his own threat from set pieces and aerial duels. 11 clean sheets this season, consistently high in the BPS rankings, and he's been on a tear recently with Form: 11.0.

Key stats:

  • EP Next GW: 12.0 (joint highest in the game)
  • Form: 11.0
  • Clean Sheets: 11 this season
  • Goals: 1 | Assists: 0 | xGI: 1.58 (goal threat is limited but CS + BPS is king)
  • TSB: 13.3% — massive differential advantage vs Gabriel (42.9%)
  • Transfers in this week: +42,019
  • Arsenal H vs Bournemouth (BOU FDR: 5)

The case for Saliba over Bruno: Bournemouth have been awful on the road and Arsenal are the tightest defensive unit at home in the league. A clean sheet plus bonus points is almost arithmetic for Saliba. He's not a goal threat week-to-week, but against Bournemouth the CS probability is so high that the template clean sheet + BPS score easily justifies an EP of 12.0.

The case against: He's a centre-back. Goals and assists are rare. Bruno offers multiple routes to huge points.

Verdict: Vice-captain or bold captain for those happy to bet on Arsenal shutting out Bournemouth completely. Differential captaincy gold if he clicks.

3. Gabriel — Arsenal (H vs Bournemouth) | £7.2m ✅ Back Fit

Gabriel

EP: 10.0 | Form: 9.0 | TSB: 42.9%

Gabriel was flagged as a doubt in our earlier GW32 guide — he is now fully confirmed available (status: a, 100% chance of playing). That's a significant update for 42.9% of managers. With 14 clean sheets this season, 3 goals, and 4 assists, Gabriel is the most productive FPL defender of the campaign — and he faces Arsenal's easiest-looking GW32 opponent in Bournemouth (FDR: 5 away).

Key stats:

  • EP Next GW: 10.0
  • Form: 9.0
  • PPG: 6.9 (highest of any FPL asset this season)
  • Clean Sheets: 14 | Goals: 3 | Assists: 4
  • Total Points: 173 — the highest-scoring FPL defender outright
  • TSB: 42.9% (widely held — use him as your VC if you want guaranteed exposure)
  • Transfers in: +84,774 | Transfers out: 73,871 (sellers returning after his fitness scare)

Gabriel is the definition of a reliable hold rather than a speculative captain. But for the huge portion of managers who sweated through his doubt status last week, he's back — and with Arsenal's best-of-the-round fixture, he could easily return 10–14 points.

Verdict: Excellent vice-captain if you're going Bruno for captain. If you don't own him and are desperate for Arsenal coverage, he's safely the hold-and-watch option at 42.9% TSB.

4. Anthony Gordon — Newcastle (A @ Crystal Palace) | £7.4m 🔴 Differential Captain

Anthony Gordon

EP: 10.5 | Form: 10.5 | TSB: 7.6%

Gordon is the differential captain pick of the week and one of the hottest players in the entire Premier League right now. An EP of 10.5 and Form of 10.5 place him above Gabriel in the FPL algorithm's estimation — and at only 7.6% ownership, he's a genuine rank-climbing armband option. His 6 goals and 4 assists in just 1,728 minutes is an elite return rate, and 130,994 managers are already moving this week.

Key stats:

  • EP Next GW: 10.5
  • Form: 10.5 (in the top 3 of any player in the game)
  • Goals: 6 | Assists: 4 | xGI: 12.08
  • Starts: 23 | Minutes: 1,728 — missed some games but always dangerous when on
  • TSB: 7.6% — massive differential captain upside
  • Transfers in: +130,994 (second most transferred in this week after Fernandes)
  • Newcastle A @ Crystal Palace (both FDR:3)

The concern with Gordon is the fixture. Crystal Palace vs Newcastle is rated FDR 3 for both sides — neither particularly easy nor hard. And Gordon is an away captain pick, which increases variance. But this is form-based captaincy at its finest: when a player posts Form:10.5 and EP:10.5, the algorithm is telling you something real. Gordon has been scoring and assisting freely for weeks.

If you're not captain-locked to Bruno and you have Gordon in your squad, the vice-captain slot for a differential pop is extremely attractive here.

Verdict: Differential captain of the week. If Bruno blanks and Gordon hauls, you're climbing hard. Best TC or VC option for brave managers.

5. Viktor Gyökeres — Arsenal (H vs Bournemouth) | £8.8m

Viktor Gyökeres

EP: 8.0 | Form: 7.0 | TSB: 11.7%

Gyökeres is the attacking route into the Arsenal vs Bournemouth fixture. 11 Premier League goals with an xGI of 10.99 tells you the underlying quality is there — the issue is that Arsenal have built their system around both Gyökeres and the wide players, and his goal-heavy but assist-light record (11G 0A) limits his ceiling compared to players like Bruno. But against Bournemouth away at FDR 5, Arsenal should create enough to keep Gyökeres firing.

Key stats:

  • EP: 8.0 | Form: 7.0
  • Goals: 11 | Assists: 0 | xGI: 10.99
  • Clean Sheets: 10 | Total Points: 101
  • TSB: 11.7% — decent differential

Verdict: Good captaincy option if you want Arsenal attacking exposure rather than defensive. Lower floor than Saliba/Gabriel for this fixture but higher ceiling if Arsenal run riot.

6. Mateus Cunha — Man Utd (H vs Leeds) | £8.0m

Mateus Cunha

EP: 7.5 | Form: 7.0 | TSB: 8.4%

Cunha is the secondary Man Utd captain option for those who can't afford Fernandes or want Man Utd exposure at a lower price. Same FDR-2 home fixture against Leeds, but the EP gap (7.5 vs 12.0) tells you where the algorithm puts its faith. Cunha contributes regularly — 7 goals and 4 assists with strong xGI (8.45) — but he operates in Bruno's shadow.

Key stats:

  • EP: 7.5 | Form: 7.0
  • Goals: 7 | Assists: 4 | xGI: 8.45
  • TSB: 8.4% | Transfers in: +51,006
  • Man Utd H vs Leeds (FDR 2)

Verdict: Fine second-string captain if you own Cunha and not Bruno. Not the first choice if you have both.

7. Danny Welbeck — Brighton (A @ Burnley) | £6.2m

Danny Welbeck

EP: 7.5 | Form: 7.0 | TSB: 5.4%

Welbeck remains the differential captain sleeper of the gameweek. 12 Premier League goals at just 5.4% ownership, with an xGI of 11.56 that rivals most top-6 strikers. Brighton travel to Burnley with an away FDR of 2 — one of the two best away fixtures in GW32. For anyone who went early on Welbeck, the captain armband for this trip is genuinely worth considering.

Key stats:

  • EP: 7.5 | Form: 7.0
  • Goals: 12 | Assists: 0 | xGI: 11.56 (elite striker quality)
  • TSB: 5.4% — maximum rank boost potential
  • Transfers in: +195,345 (huge — most transferred-in player behind Fernandes)
  • Brighton A @ Burnley (FDR 2)

Verdict: Differential captain for the bold. At 5.4%, a Welbeck haul with the armband is a 10-15 green arrow move. High upside, moderate rotation risk.

8. Dominik Szoboszlai — Liverpool (H vs Fulham) | £7.1m

Dominik Szoboszlai

EP: 7.5 | Form: 7.0 | TSB: 14.1%

Szoboszlai at £7.1m continues to deliver mid-price value for Liverpool owners. The Liverpool FDR crept up from 2 to 3 since our earlier preview, which takes some of the shine off — but Fulham are still a generous opponent (FDR: 4 away) and Szoboszlai's 5 goals and 3 assists at Anfield-fuelled form make him a legitimate mid-range captain choice.

Key stats:

  • EP: 7.5 | Form: 7.0
  • Goals: 5 | Assists: 3 | xGI: 9.00
  • TSB: 14.1% | Transfers in: +81,044
  • Liverpool H vs Fulham (FDR: 4 away for Fulham)

Verdict: Solid hold, reasonable VC option. Liverpool's slight FDR increase dampens the full enthusiasm but Szoboszlai delivers often enough.

Our GW32 Captain Recommendations

Captain: Bruno Fernandes — EP 12.0, Form 11.5, Man Utd H vs Leeds. No debate needed.

Vice-Captain: Saliba or Gabriel — depends what you own. Saliba is the differential angle (13.3% TSB), Gabriel is the safe hold for the majority.

Differential Captain: Anthony Gordon — EP 10.5, Form 10.5, only 7.6% ownership. If you want to separate from the template, Gordon is your play.

Avoid Captaining: Gyökeres, Cunningha, or Szoboszlai unless you've already locked in the above. The EP gap is too large to justify when Bruno exists.
